Soon after adoption in February of 2010 Randy wrote:

Finally after just under a week, Convict aka Supafly, has decided on a name for himself. Merlin, since he is a gray coat – for Merlin the Wizard of Camelot’s beard and since he is a magical little kitten.
Tonight, while reading on the couch, Merlin decided it was playtime. Although the usual items (rattling mouse, crinkle ball, etc) did for awhile, he decided my other cat Nimbus needed to wake from his nap and play.
For the last 20 minutes, the two have been playing & wrestling. Although Merlin is quick with his paw, Nimbus is in a bigger weight class. Playing back and forth, the boys chased and pawed and had a blast. Once Nimbus had his fill, he flopped and laid down. This then prompted Merlin to get the catnip carrot and taunt Nimbus with it. For another few minutes they played.
The speed at which they are bonding is amazing. When you said you had a friend in mind, I am not sure you could have made a better choice. You rock.

Needless to say, the boys are getting along great. Merlin has grown much, in the short time since he became part of the family. Although I wasn’t able to get a picture of it, since I was half asleep & it was in the middle of the night, Nimbus & Merlin were curled up in a circle with each other.
It’s been almost 5 years since I adopted Meggie from Furkids. Just wanted to give you an update.
Meggie is doing very well. She has become the über alpha cat!!! She runs the house and its occupants with an “iron” paw – nothing gets by Meggie. She can be a bully with the other cats at times when she thinks they’re getting food she’s not getting (they’re not) or curled up in a spot she thinks should be hers. Her favorite vantage point is on top of the cabinets above the refrigerator where she can keep an eye on what goes on below. I finally put a couple of cat beds up there so she could at least be comfy – LOL! She and one of my other cats, Darla, like to hang out up there. My petsitter tells me that whenever she’s taking care of the cats, Meggie follows her all around the house to “supervise.” After years of trying, I’m finally able to trim her nails by myself. She doesn’t much like it, but at least she doesn’t try to rip me to shreds while I’m doing it.
During the summer, it’s inevitable that a housefly or 2 will get into the house. Meggie is an excellent tracker/catcher of flies! However, my 2 youngest kitties, Aqua and Rainey, have pretty much taken over that function from Meggie, but she doesn’t seem to mind so much. When I used to put the adoption kits together for FK, Meggie loved to supervise that activity, too!
Just wanted to say hello from Meggie and all the felines at the Foster home – Meggie, Carla, Darla, Natty, Aqua, and Rainey!

I wanted to let you know that Johnny has continued to make good progress in his adoptive home. Our blonde 6-7 yr-old tabby, Leo, has finally accepted him. I just took these photos today of Leo grooming Johnny as they were lounging together on our living room floor. Johnny still can frustrate Leo with his youthful exuberance (he likes to pounce on him playfully sometimes), but overall life is good here.
I hope you will share this with the man who rescued him & with his foster family. Johnny loves being carried around the house like a baby & demands being picked & cuddled when anyone returns home. He is very smart & very playful. A true joy!

Furkids: How are things going with Orpheus?
Jack: Orpheus is happy as a clam. Still wary of Noodle, the alpha cat, but making progress with the others.
Furkids: Is he playing with the other kitties?
Jack: Of course. They don’t quite know what to make of him. His behavior has been impeccable. He found the scratching post right away. We had 8 for dinner here yesterday and he was the hit of the evening.
Raspberry’s and Blackberry’s first night at our home. They are doing great and could not be friendlier. Turns out Blackberry is a bit more spunky than Raspberry. My other two kitties are not too interested in them at this point. Which worked out nicely for Blackberry and Raspberry last night as they got to sleep in the master bedroom on the enormous bed with tons of pillows. They are so cute with great personalities. I will continue to send pictures. Thank you Furkids! – Patricia H.
September 2011: Updated pictures. They are getting big! Both of them have personalities that just don’t quit!

We just wanted to thank you for Fezzi, she has been a lot of comfort for me during my confinement. Because of the scar tissue from my brain surgery, I suffer from Gran-Mal seizures, and she has been a very good thing for me. I’m glad to say that I had 2 seizures right after she came to live with us, and she was right there next to me, and I can’t explain how important that was. Anytime that I don’t feel good, she jumps up on the bed and lays down right next to me. I haven’t had a seizure in several weeks, and I’m sure that my Dr. would say that this is due to her calming effect on me. She is the sweetest cat that I have ever known. Again, thanks for letting us adopt her. Russ & Wanda G.

“Peter Piper” is now Murray, and he is doing great! He and our other cat, Lebowski, warmed up to each other very quickly. We could only keep them apart for about half a day. They chase each other around the house and wrestle, and sleep on the bed together when they aren’t conducting “neighborhood watch” out the bedroom window together. Murray is a great cat – he’s so cuddly and loves to be held and
petted and played with. He’ll lie on the sofa with us the whole time we watch a movie, and he purrs nonstop. He seems very happy in his new home and we are so glad we brought him home (and Lebowski is too!). — Thanks again, Laurie

The kitties are adjusting so well and we love having them around! They have added so much life to our home. I wish we could have taken more of them! I have attached a picture of them and also added it to the Facebook page. I’ll send more as they grow and we’ll be sure to keep in touch. We are still planning on volunteering when things slow down a bit around our house. Have a great day! – Kim : )

One year ago today, I went out to the shelter and came home with Winston and Callie (aka, Opie and Robin) and Buckaroo. I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed having them in my life this last year! They are just wonderful and I hope they are even close to as happy as I am. We are celebrating today with canned cat food. (Well, THEY are. I think I’ll have something else). Thanks for making my new family possible. Here is a pic of the little ones a couple of months ago. They are trying to figure out how to get the shadow of the dove! — Bridget B.

Sitta and Dublin (we liked the names pretty well and kept them) are doing fine. Dublin spent some time hiding the first night, but he was out of his shell (and very affectionate) by the next day. Both of them are sweet and playful, and we are really enjoying them. They do have a tendency to nap through the afternoon and early evening and then gallop around the house (and on top of us) at night, but it’s not too bothersome. We got a couple of toy mice for them, but their favorite toy is a white shoelace. Sitta will drag it up onto the bed, clearly wanting one of us to throw it so she can fetch it and bring it back, and she’ll sometimes drag it around trying to tantalize Dublin into chasing it. Very cute. — Meredith

This is such a super sweet kitty. I haven’t yet found what name he responds to best, but “Loki” and “Fox(y)” are high on the list. He’s having to deal with a very jealous Tempi. She takes out most of her frustrations on me, though. If little cat meows, she bats me. I think it’ll all smooth out in a bit of time. This picture is why I think he’s very Foxy.’ – Cheers, Kirsti

Just want to update you on dear ole’ Conrad. (He is perched on my lap as I write this e-mail.)
Conrad has assimilated quite well and gives us the impression that he is very happy here. There’s lots of space, a screened cat porch, plenty of cat trees, wildlife out the windows, wonderful gourmet food and a big blue Brit Shorthair who often serves as Conrad’s wrestling partner. Conrad had a tough time accepting the dogs – maybe he was terrorized in his former life – but they seem to have worked out a plan for peaceful cohabitation. This picture shows Conrad in one of his favorite napping cubbies; on a 6ft high bookshelf. There is a cat tree right next to the shelf unit and he uses that as his ladder.
Every day I tell Conrad how happy we are that he waited all those 18 months at Furkids until we finally found him! Thanks for your assistance as our adoption coordinator, and thanks again to Furkids for giving a temporary home to the old guys like Conrad!
All our best – Barbara and John

After a lot of paperwork and a visit to USDA in Conyers and more paperwork, Abby was finally allowed to enter Sweden. One week ago we left a hot Georgia for a much colder Sweden. I was a little bit nervous at first and thought she would talk non-stop during the flight, but she behaved like a true globetrotter and appeared not to mind being in a plane for a total of 11 hrs. Abby did not say a word. It was like she knew she was on an adventure together with me. Abby has settled in her new place and it feels like she has always lived here. She loves her new apartment and to have a bigger family. — Jenny A.

Mr. Kitty has settled in very well. It probably took him about 10 minutes to realize that he has a pretty good gig here. As you can see I have kept his name; it just seems to fit him so well. I like to think that I rescued him and he did the same for me as we lost both of our pets (a westie and a kitty) within the last 4 months. You are right on the mark when you say that he is a marshmallow. He will be my only pet, so he won’t have to worry about being picked on. I want to thank all of you so very much for the wonderful work you do at Furkids. I really believe that you are doing God’s work; saving His creatures. — Judy G.

Here is a photo of Durga. She’s 8 years old now and still loves clean laundry! – Bridget

My Furkids have bonded! It took 11 months, but my Furkids Pandora and Riley are in love! – Julia W.

Rajah REALLY enjoyed the snow this winter. We don’t dare let him see his leash or he runs to the door to go for a walk. – The Purdy Family

Tomorrow I take Sam in for his yearly checkup and shots at the vet. I thought about you and so thankful for your wonderful care of him when he was small and so ill. He is an absolutely beautiful cat, he looks exactly like a picture of a Birman. He is the most easy going guy and loves everyone that comes to the house. Thank you and Furkids for allowing us to adopt him. I am forever grateful. Sam was a little subdued for a short time after his vet visit but received a clean bill of health and has returned to his easygoing loveable self. He’s at 12 lbs 9 oz now. We’re sending a few pictures but he really doesn’t only eat and sleep as these would imply. He also races around with Noelle – one of the smallest cats we’ve ever had, and just generally enjoys life as a cat. Thanks again for bringing Sam into our lives — Chris and Dave M.

I love Noah. He is a doll! He was walking on his little elbow when I started fostering him. Now he walks perfectly and I can’t give him up! — Lia Huddart

The boys are doing great!! We love them so much, and so does Bailey. They have kept us in constant stitches since we got them…. SO FUNNY! And I have to say…. they are the most loving and socialized cats I have ever seen! They love to be where we are at all times (even bed time). We had a dinner party yesterday and even with a house full of people – they were just totally at ease. We changed their names: John-John is Beauregard; and Jack-Jack is Telos. – Rad & John

Luckie adores Zee. He shares his toys, his bed, his litter box, his closet safe spot, and his food with him. While I’m petting Zee, Luckie will come over and groom him. Best. Choice. Ever. Thanks! — Cait

Just wanted to say thanks so much for allowing me to adopt my mom foster, Clara. She just fits in so well with our other cats. She and my dog have loved each other since the first time they met 2 months ago. I swore I wouldn’t get too attached to another foster but I knew she would be a great addition to our family. She was pretty run down after feeding so many babies and being in animal control, but has gained weight since she has been here and looks much better now. Again, thanks for all you do! Clara and her 7 babies would have been euthanized if there was no Furkids and they deserved to live. God knew what He was doing when He picked you to open Furkids! — Lisa C.

Jessica – Thanks so much for helping us adopt Dollar. She is such a sweet girl! She didn’t last long in her “safe room” and insisted on escaping out the door with us on Friday night and came face to face with Sweetie. Sweetie is fine as long as Dollar doesn’t get on her chair (see photo!). Dollar wasn’t too sure about Sweetie though. There have been a couple of hisses (from Dollar! I was shocked!), but I think they had a good conversation last night and seem to be tolerant of each other now. I woke up in the middle of the night to find Dollar had managed to squeeze her way in between my husband and I and she was happily snoozing and purring. – Andrea V.

Wanted to let you know that both kitties are doing fine after a little bit of a rocky start for Mittens (the one who looks like she has a mask on). She is catching up with Boo in size now and after the weeks of recuperating, she is healed completely from her surgery! They are healthy and happy, playing all day if they are not sleeping or climbing on us! We are so happy to have them and are so grateful that a place like Furkids exists! Your support and assistance through the process made it all easy and helped us to bond with them! You took great care of them for the first weeks of their lives- now we will enjoy them for the rest of their lives! ![]()

I adopted my baby a few years ago from FurKids and he is such a joy! I love what is being done with this organization. Brownie is the one on the left looking all happy. Wizard is his older sister on the right who has been with me since she was born in 98. They love to get some sun in the window while I do computer work -Eleanor

Wanted to show you a picture of Anderson with my Furkid (Buster). I fostered him at 10 days old and raised him on a bottle. He had calicivirus and pneumonia. I pulled him through after many sleepless nights. There were a lot of days I thought he wouldn’t make it. I failed as a foster and adopted him. After all we went through together we bonded and I just couldn’t let him go. He has been such a joy. He loves to ride in his kitty stroller and we even take him on vacation with us. He is like a dog. He even loves to ride in the car and look out the window! He is also Anderson’s buddy and hangs out with her all the time. Just wanted you to know that without you and Furkids he wouldn’t be a part of our lives. Thanks for all you do. — Lisa C.

I am FINALLY getting around to sending you some photos of my happy Sammy (formerly Ringo when I adopted him). I adopted him in March of 2008. As you can see, he is thriving here in Cincinnati and has many, many windows to watch the birds and squirrels in our back yard. He is such a sweet boy and I love him very much!!! Thanks for the good work you do — Tia F. (Sammy’s Mom)

Just wanted to update you on Jilly’s progress…she is wonderful, and sweet, and all that we were hoping she would be. We kept her in the guest “suite” for a week, and then introduced her to Thomas. Only a single hiss, (from Thomas), and that was it. It took a couple of days for her to completely charm him with head butts, and chirping, but I think she now has him in the palm of her paw! She keeps to the upstairs portion of the house, and we haven’t properly introduced her to the dogs yet (they are not allowed upstairs). We’ll let her do that on her own schedule. For now, she is the master of the upstairs landing, and looks down on us. Hope all is well! — Gina F.

Ziggy is very healthy and good-natured. He loves to sit on the deck. He watches TV sometimes too. He gets along well with Mini and they chase and wrestle a good bit. Adopting from Furkids was a GREAT idea and I will always recommend you! Thanks and stay in touch — Scott L.

Crumpet, a girl, is now called Mr. Pickles. We refer to all of our pets as “Mr.” She is doing great and likes the dogs more than the other cats! — Niko & Lindsey

Molly’s doing great! She’s still just such a sweet girl! She just got a brother, his name is Simon and he’s a little dachshund. Molly has been great with him. It’s just a none-issue for the both of them.
– Sherri C.

Lily was afraid of everything for a long time but one day when her family was preparing dinner she sat herself down at the table and decided if she waited long enough they would share their food with her. Now she eats dinner most nights with us. She is better mannered than most children.
