Adoption Information
Furkids houses over 400 rescue cats, kittens (and dogs) in our rescue program. Once you have located the rescue animal you would like to adopt (on-line or through a PetSmart adoption center), the first step towards adopting is to fill out an adoption application. Our volunteers work hard to respond to all adoption applications or inquiries within 72 hours. Below are some of the frequently asked questions regarding our adoption policies and procedures.
The adoption fee includes testing, shots, spay/neuter, a bag of Science Diet food, and a bag of Feline Pine cat litter to help get you started. We will also give you, or mail to you, a copy of the cat’s medical records, which you can give to your vet.
- The adoption fee for one cat is $125, or $200 for two cats.
- The adoption fee for a dog is $225.
All animals have complete (up to their current age) medical care, including vaccinations and sterilization. All animals have the following vetting included in their adoption fee:
- Sterilization
- Combo test for cats, heartworm test for dogs
- FVRCP vaccinations
- Rabies vaccination
- Leukemia vaccinations
- Dewormings
- Flea treatment
- Earmite treatment (if needed)
- Bag of Science Diet food
- Bag of Feline Pine litter
- Cardboard cat scratching box with catnip
- Any other vetting as needed, such as additional testing, major surgery, etc.
- Ongoing complimentary nail trimmings
- Furkids as a resource for the life of the animal
Furkids Adoption Policies & Procedures
- Must be at least 21 years of age to apply.
- Must be a resident of Georgia to apply.
- Your current animals must be up to date on rabies and spayed or neutered.
- We do not offer same day adoptions; adoption applications are reviewed within 72 hours of receipt.
- Most all of our cats and kittens require an animal companion in the home.
- If no animal companion in the home, cats and kittens must be adopted in pairs, unless the cat prefers to be the ONLY pet.
- Cats that make better ONLY companions are indicated on the website as such.
- Applicants are required to sign a binding adoption contract at adoption close.
