Furkids and Good Mews Support DeKalb County Police by Accepting Animals in Cruelty Investigation
On November 29, in an animal hoarding investigation, the DeKalb Police Cruelty Unit removed dozens of cats living in unsanitary conditions from a home in Dunwoody. Some of the cats were suffering from conditions commonly found when large numbers of animals live together in a confined, unhealthy environment. The case is under investigation by the DeKalb Police Cruelty Unit.
In general, cats in a hoarding situation can suffer from upper respiratory infections, flea infestation, starvation, stress, and many other ailments.
We can understand someone’s desire to want to save animals from death, but a single family doesn’t have the resources to provide the proper care for a large number of animals, and that’s why facilities like ours exist.
Furkids has taken in over 40 of the cats and Good Mews has taken in over 25. Both organizations are medically caring for the cats and both have exacting adoption processes to appropriately match homeless animals with loving, adoptive families in lifelong homes.
If you look around you can see that shelters like Furkids and Good Mews are equipped to care for large numbers of animals and keep them healthy and happy.
Georgia has a major pet overpopulation problem and spaying and neutering is critical to better controlling the numbers of unwanted animals in our state.
These cats will soon be available for adoption. Please consider making a donation towards their care to Furkids or Good Mews. It costs approximately $200 per cat to provide their medical care and prepare them for adoption.

I am a proud volunteer for Good Mews. Today I met several of these wonderful kitties; they are all so sweet. It is amazing to me how these beautiful creatures could withstand such horror and be so loving and responsive to strangers. 2 of them are in a foster home that I visited today to help bathe as the odor on them was overwhelming. They were purring and giving us kisses! Thank you Good Mews and Furkids for rescuing these wonderful kitties and giving them a chance at a better life.

I just have to say thank you so very much for taking in all of these babies, but I also feel that because of the owners love for them is the reason why they are so loving. Maybe things got out of control, but no animal was intentually hurt and each and everyone of them were loved. Thank you for taking them in and for finding them a wonderful home. Much Love, Hugs and Prayers.

The cats are friendly and loving ONLY because that is what they received in their home…the people who had them treated them with love and kindness and according to vets, they were healthy. A REAL rescue would provide assistance to someone without being petty and malicious in the process. Try acting like adults while rescuing cats.

Thank you so much for helping these kitties!
I saw how precious and in need of attention they all were and
I have the peace of mind now to know they are all being well cared for and will have the chance now to have good and loving homes.

i have a friend that is a veteran and out of work. He once had 26 cats that he had taken in to help. He was able to find home for all of the cats except for 6 of them, which he loved and want to keep. Unfortunately, he has been out of work for over two years and he may not have a home soon. Right now, he needs cat food for his 6 cats. Can someone please help him with cat food. From time to time, I try to buy food when I have extra money. I have one cat and 10 outdoor ally cats that I help feed. Please let me know if someone can help him. I know sometime he goes without food just so they can eat.

Shelters like this one are a Godsend. I myself have rescued hundreds of cats over the years. At one time I had about 30 cats. I lived way out in the country and most were drop offs. This was before no kill shelters were thought of.
I realize there is a waiting list to bring in a rescue, so I am trying to help these kittens out myself. I have 2, black & very shiney, rescues left (approximately) six month old kittens that have been spayed and have had all thier shots. They are in need of a loving home, hopefully, before Christmas. I will even throw in a couple of months of cat food. Please somebody with a warm heart adopt one or both of these kittens. Also can deliver in the Atlanta area. My email address is mmclaughlin@shtc.net and God Bless you.
